Behind the Scenes of a Newborn Photographer

Step behind the scenes with a newborn photographer. Discover what goes into making each newborn shoot a unique and beautiful experience for families.

Ever thought, jeez, why are newborn sessions so expensive? It’s only 2 - 3 hours. The thing is, it’s not.

  • Once you have booked your shoot, the photographer will start consulting with you about the shoot, style and wardrobe.

  • Before you arrive at the newborn shoot the photographer will setup the studio especially for your newborn session as discussed in the consultation.

  • And here comes the fun part! Actually photographing those precious newborn folds and tiny feet and fingers!

  • After the shoot is actually where most of the time is spent. First culling of pictures to selected the top pictures for your client. Then loading them up to a online gallery and more correspondence with the client to select their favourite newborn photographs.

  • Lastly, and often the most time consuming, the photographer will spend ours perfectly editing your pictures. Correcting newborn skin tone, creating a mood, softening skin and cleaning up any distractions in the picture. The edits are then delivered to the family digitally or in print (which again takes some admin and correspondence to put the order through to print and select the appropriate package with your client).

  • Wait there is MORE! Don’t forget about marketing! Those squishy newborn cheeks will be added on social media to promote the photographers work, which is pretty much a full time job in itself! No jokes.

So if you are interested in doing a newborn shoot. Remember that for you those newborn memories are going to be SO WORTH it! And for the photographer, she is not charging for 2 - 3 hours. There is SO much love, time and effort going into the images that you expect and paid for.
