The first year is a whirlwind of firsts: first smiles, first words, first steps… and now, her first birthday is just around the corner. As a newborn and baby photographer in Adelaide, I’ve photographed many first birthdays. But this one? This one hits differently — because it’s my own little girl in front of the lens.

🎂 Why We’re Doing a Cake Smash
A cake smash session is such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate turning one. It’s not just about the cake (though let’s be honest, the mess is half the fun). It’s about documenting this wild, wonderful, personality-packed stage before toddlerhood truly begins.
For Ellie’s shoot, I’m planning something soft and simple — just like her. A minimal setup with creamy tones, soft textures, and a little cake she can smash, squish, and sample at her own pace. Nothing over-the-top, just natural, joyful moments in my cozy Littlehampton studio.

Cake smash sessions are one of my absolute favourites to photograph. There’s something magical about letting babies just be themselves. Some dig straight in, others explore cautiously with one finger. Some laugh, some cry, and some are far more interested in the balloons than the cake. And I adore every moment of it.
They’re unpredictable, full of personality, and always packed with genuine, candid expressions. It’s the perfect way to freeze time before your baby officially leaves the “baby” stage behind.
